Engineering Supervisor - Fairfield


JOB SUMMARY: The engineering supervisor supervises the day-to-day operations, preventive maintenance functions, repairs, and modifications of the hospital's physical plant facilities, equipment and grounds. This includes work accomplished by in-house staff and/or work performed by contractors. The engineering supervisor works collaboratively with the director to ensure that high quality, cost effective services are provided to all customers by monitoring standards of practice, customer satisfaction, operational and personnel budgets, and staff performance. Organizational standards for Joint Commission, Patient Safety and the Department of Health will be met or exceeded.

 

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

1. Assigns daily work, special projects and training to department employees.

2. Evaluates quality and quantity of work accomplished by department employees and contractors.

3. Supervises the installation, repairs or maintenance activities on: electrical, mechanical ,plumbing, communication, and H.V.A.C. systems or devices. May also independently perform the work.

4. Completes safety/maintenance inspections on: fire alarm systems, emergency power systems, emergency communications systems and patient-related equipment.

5. Evaluates new equipment and forwards findings as appropriate.

6. Assists the director in the development and management of the annual personnel, expense and capital budgets.

7. Monitors personnel compliance with competency standards and required training.

8. Participates in the interview process and selection of staff.

9. Evaluates and documents individual employee performance through the performance appraisal process.

10. Counsels staff as appropriate, and participates in the disciplinary process with the director.

11. Works within established systems to effectively communicate within and across departments.

12. Demonstrates effective problem solving and conflict resolution skills through resolution of unit and interdepartmental problems at the lowest level.

13. Performs educational needs assessment of staff and develops yearly education program for department in collaboration with the director.

14. Participates on special projects and interdisciplinary committees as assigned.
