Facilities Technician
Primary Function / Primary Goals / Objectives: The Facilities Technician III is responsible for support and maintenance of the facility. This is a 90% hands-on position, including but not limited to electrical, air conditioning, plumbing, carpentry, painting, security, fire and life safety, and vendor management (e.g., janitorial services, landscaping, recycling, waste disposal).
Major Responsibilities: Responsible for implementing and maintaining the effectiveness of the quality system. The Facilities Technician III maintains the facility, supports all departments, and maintains all operating systems. Utilizes complex computer programs in the performance of job duties (e.g., environmental controls, electrical metering, testing equipment, work order system). Receives work orders from the supervisor and schedules daily activities according to priority of work. Completes all work orders in a timely manner and to the satisfaction of the customer. Repairs heating, ventilation and air conditioning units, installs and repairs electrical circuits and lighting, installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, minor maintenance tasks on deionized water system, performs basic carpentry and sheetrock repairs, painting, rearranges modular furniture as needed. Performs various daily maintenance tasks as assigned. Works with vendors to ensure contracted services are being provided (e.g., janitorial services, landscaping, waste disposal). Works with departmental personnel to identify problems and ensure resolution.
Education: Technical or trade school certification. Position requires extensive knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical circuitry, vendor management, project management, and maintenance (e.g., plumbing, carpentry, painting).
Accountability / Scope: The Facilities Technician III is responsible for support and maintenance of the facility. The position is responsible for using resources to maintain the facility at a minimal cost. Failure to do so impacts the cost of doing business, the asset value of the buildings and equipment, and can result in closing of the facility or fines.
